One of Canada's most decorated athletes will get the chance to see if his skills on the track translate to the hardwood.
Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse is joining the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game roster and will take the court alongside fellow Canadian Simu Liu and former NBA star Jason Williams, among others, the league announced Tuesday.
De Grasse is a seven-time Olympic medallist with two golds to his name, winning the 200-metre in Tokyo in 2020 and the 4 x 100-metre relay in Paris in 2024.
Though he made a name for himself on the world stage on the track, basketball has always been a big part of his life. De Grasse played high school basketball at Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy and Milliken Mills High School in the Greater Toronto area, even suiting up against current NBA star Andrew Wiggins, who attended Vaughn Secondary School at the time.
The Scarborough, Ont., native also hosts an annual basketball tournament in Markham, the Andre De Grasse Holiday Classic.
It will mark the second time De Grasse suits up for the Celebrity Game after joining the festivities in 2018 in Los Angeles.
Liu will also be suiting up for a second time. The actor, best known for his roles in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Kim's Convenience took the court in 2023 in Utah.
Another Canadian connection joining the Celebrity Game ranks will be rapper GloRilla, who is dating Raptors star Brandon Ingram and regularly appears courtside at games in Toronto.
The Celebrity Game will take place on Feb. 13, the first day of NBA All-Star Weekend, from the KIA Forum in Los Angeles.
